The Sensa Festival

Every year on Ascension Day (May the 8th 2016) the Sensa Festival takes place in Venice when the city symbolically marries the sea. It is the oldest Venetian Feast as the first time it was celebrated was in 1177.
Join the water parade of traditional rowing boats from San Marco to Lido, led by the “Serenissima” boat, where the mayor and the other authorities take their place and where the “Wedding with the Sea” is celebrated again.
The evocative ceremony includes the throwing of a symbolic ring in the water.
A great time to meet friends and fully realize the value of Venetian history and traditions, it is nothing less than the festival of the city and its relationship with the sea. Follow on board the local boat “Bragozzo” or “Sampierotta,” depending on the size of your group, and see decorative boats such as the “Bucintoro,” the boat that transported the Doge of Venice.
